Hospital Cafeteria Adds Drama With Wood-fired Pizza Oven

A better health has unveiled its newly renovated cafeteria, which includes a stone wood-fired pizza oven, expanded seating and energy-efficient equipment, The Bradford Era reports.

The oven is a particular focal point, hospital officials note, as it adds some drama to the eatery’s ambiance.

Aramark, the hospital’s foodservice provider, funded the $591,000 revamp and provided an additional $130,000 for a new dish room. The hospital held a soft opening this week as a precursor to the official grand opening taking place later this month.

Philadelphia Hospitals Awarded For Health Initiatives

Six Philadelphia hospitals were honored by the city’s department of public health for healthy food initiatives introduced as part of the local Good Food, Healthy Hospitals program.

The hospitals each debuted healthy measures to their dining services, such as lowering the cost of water bottles and seltzers, and offering dishes that incorporate local produce. One hospital was also honored for operating its own organic farm.

Backlash Over Mayo Clinic Vendor Change Continues

After being sued by the services Employees International Union over its decision to change vendors from Sodexo to Morrison, the foodservice arm at Mayo Clinic continues to face backlash from staff. While a Mayo Clinic spokesperson said that staff will be given similar positions and pay rates under Morrison, SEIU Healthcare Minnesota—the union representing much of the hospital’s foodservice staff—says the clinic is trying to rid itself of hundreds of employees, according to Fox 9.

An “informational picket” will also be held at Mayo Clinic later this month.
